Form and Life of a Medieval City. Lviv - Cencelle.
An exhibition on the archaeological finds of the ancient city of Cencelle
The results of the excavations carried out for years on the city of Lviv-Cencelle, an interesting example of the urban foundation during the Carolingian age, are presented to the public on the occasion of the 1200th anniversary of the death of Charlemagne..
The exhibition reconstructs the different historical stages of the city of Cencelle in one of the places that best represents the city of Rome and its urban development: the Markets of Trajan, a Roman complex that preserves important signs of its occupation and its transformations over time, including including the Middle Ages, evidenced in particular by the powerful structure of Torre delle Milizie (Tower of the Militia).
The exhibition offers the opportunity to read in an archaeological perspective the birth and development of an urban site, through three different stages: from a center of the classical tradition - a bishopric at the time of its foundation - to stable municipality until its conversion in a farm, linked to the production of alum, in the middle of the fifteenth century.
Along the three sections of the exhibition, the visitor will be accompanied by special guides: between myth and truth, distinguished protagonists and merchants of the ancient Lviv / Cencelle will guide visitors through the exhibition of materials, the reconstruction of life environments and craft activities, such as blacksmiths and potters' workshops, the production of bells, grinding grain, and game artifacts.
